Our Story
Why we started, Who we are, and how we view the Future.
Tyler Williams' Sturm und Drang Story
Hi, I'm Tyler Williams, and I'd like to share my story with you.
I grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania, where everyone sort of did their work and lived their lives. All told, it was pretty normal stuff.
As for me — well — growing up, I was actually a bit of a trouble maker.
In fact, that's really where my story begins.
— One Word —
It's 'Meet The Team' night. This was the night where all the teams that were in-season would group together, and one-by-one, your name would be introduced in front of your family, friends, and significant others.
"Varsity Lacrosse, Tyler Williams" — this combination never got called.
Nearly ten years ago — about 30 minutes before we met to be introduced — I was kicked off the Varsity Lacrosse team. I was summoned into the Coaches' Office, where I was told that I was "uncoachable".
Uncoachable? This word just... stuck.
That night, I told myself — from that point forward — I would do everything I could to learn, to grow, and to be as coachable as possible.
And that's exactly what I did. The following year — I was a player-voted Team Captain.
Over the next six years, I would actually coach side-by-side with that very same man — a great friend to this day — who once kicked me off his team.
— One Thought —
So there I was, during my senior year of college, studying Entrepreneurship and Innovation, when I had an epiphany of sorts.
Over time, I had found it curious that the majority of students within my major had no intentions of starting a business one day.
As for me, I found delight in teaching and mentoring other students in some of the more difficult courses — supply chain management, corporate accounting and finance, marketing metrics and even information systems.
...all for a little spending cash, of course.
Doing this class after class gave me a thought, and it's one that I remember quite distinctly to this day. I was sitting in class, thinking to myself. I wondered — Why was this? Why would someone spend a hundred grand on a degree they're not going to use? Was this a common theme among the other majors?
— One Survey —
Turns out it was actually fairly common. This was all very puzzling to me.
After all, I was pursuing my degree knowing damn well I had every intention of starting my own company one day.
So I ran a beta test and asked my classmates and friends at other schools to fill out a simple, three-question survey for me:
1. What they thought of college — as general or as specific as they'd like to be.
2. If they didn't mind sharing the debt load that they would be carrying.
3. When they found a job, if they wouldn't mind sharing whether it pertained to their major.
The results? Startling.
1. The most common word in their responses of how my peers viewed college? 'Scam.'
2. The average debt load? About 70K — in principle.
3. The most common word in their responses of major-career correlation? 'No.'

— One Company —
Nine credits short (gym, lab science, non-major elective), I made the decision to drop out of college — and I started the brainwork for my first company.
To start, coaching executives who wanted to grow and succeed in both life and business was the logical first step.
This allowed us to do two things:
1. It allowed us to collect data. What was common? What was unique? What was a foundational truth?
2. It allowed us to develop a soft prototype to work our hypothesis on.
Life — and business.
This was an important revelation, and came not only from my survey, but from years of coaching high-level lacrosse.
Sophisticated marketing automation. Sales engineering. Financing and investment structures. Everything. It's all very easy to teach to someone who has good limbic system awareness, critical thinking discipline, and a really strong understanding of the importance of being coachable.
But that's the problem. Most people don't understand this.
You see, the truth is, most people don't actually have work, career, or business problems.
They have life problems — self problems — that they allow to be reflected in their work, career, and business.
They have shiny object syndrome. They make emotions, not decisions. They view learning as a chore. The list goes on and on...
And it all stems from the way today's education is taught.
